warhol. neo-dada. pop art.
Happy Birthday Mr. Warhol. To a man who revolutionized art- and made us question what art is and how we define it- we raise a glass to you sir!
Known as the father of Pop Art which made objects and visual modes of consumer society did not appear ex nihilo, but came gradually in a drift away from the gestural, painterly modes of Action painting towards a more inclusive art. Pop art reflected life and was no longer an interpretation of reality it was reality. There was no disputing that. Warhol repeated images of automobile crashes, movie stars, political figures and soup cans snatched from the daily headlines from print media or from food. He placed reality into the forefront by placing an art filter on what he was generating. Mad man or Genius? You decide.
